Privacy Policy

Effective October 5, 2026

1. About this policy

1.1 Allele is operated by pedigree.dev LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company doing business as Allele Genomics ("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use Allele at allele.dev and in our mobile apps (the "Service"), how we use it, who can see it, and the choices you have.

1.2 Personal information is information about you as a person. Records about your animals are covered by our Terms of Service, section 4. Where those records are linked to you, we also protect them as this policy describes.

1.3 Words defined in our Terms of Service have the same meaning here.

2. What we collect

2.1 Information you give us, such as your name, email address, phone number, country and postcode; your farm's name, site code and contact details; the records, photos and samples you add; what you type or say to Farmhand; and messages you send us. Records you add may include information about other people, such as a breeder or a buyer. You are responsible for having the right to share it (Terms, section 4.7).

2.2 Information collected when you use the Service, such as your IP address, the device, browser and app version you use, and when and how you use the Service. We use it to run, secure and support the Service.

2.3 Information from others, such as genotype results from laboratories, records other farms keep about animals you bred or sold, information from services you connect to your farm, and payment confirmations from our payment processor. We never receive or store your full card number.

2.4 Cookies. We use a cookie to keep you signed in. Our payment processor sets its own cookies on checkout pages to prevent fraud. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics.

3. How we use it

We use personal information to:

  • (a) provide the Service, such as reports, analytics, EBVs, and cross-farm communication;
  • (b) contact you about the Service: service messages such as order updates, results and security notices, and calls when something goes wrong;
  • (c) bill you and keep financial records;
  • (d) answer support requests and diagnose and fix problems;
  • (e) keep the Service and its users secure and prevent fraud and abuse;
  • (f) improve the Service, and carry out the research our Terms allow (section 4.2), using information that does not identify you wherever we can; and
  • (g) comply with the law.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use it for targeted advertising, and we do not share it with advertisers.

4. Who can see it

4.1 Other Allele users can see:

  • your farm's name and site code, and your farm as the breeder or owner on your animals' records;
  • your animals' public view (Terms, section 5.2), including photos. We do not keep location data embedded in photos you upload; and
  • through breeder search, your farm by its name, its site code or its members' names, with those names shown. This is on by default and you can turn it off in your farm's settings. Your email address is shown only if you choose to show it.

Other members of your farm, whatever their role, can read the feature requests you file for it, and what you and we write on them. Your other tickets stay between you and us, except that when we fix a problem or add something farms asked for, we may describe it on our public What's new page, in our own words. On What's new we never say who reported or asked for it.

If your farm chooses to be named on a feature it asked for, every farm that reads the roadmap sees its name there.

If you ask us for a feature by phone, at a sale or in person, we may record it as your vote for your farm. Members of your farm with full access are told that a vote was recorded for the farm, not who asked. If you ask us for a feature before you have an account, we keep your name and how to reach you with that request, for our staff only, until you ask us to delete them.

4.2 Our staff can see account and farm information when they run, support and secure the Service.

4.3 Service providers process personal information for us, only to provide the Service and under confidentiality obligations. They are providers of hosting, storage and content delivery, payment processing, email delivery, laboratory testing, speech recognition and language models. Laboratories are named on the reports they contribute to. Laboratories receive the details they need to test your samples.

4.4 Your browser's speech service. When you speak to Farmhand in a web browser, your browser turns your speech into text before it reaches us. Some browsers send the audio to their maker's servers to do this. Google Chrome, for example, sends it to Google. That processing is covered by your browser maker's privacy terms, not ours.

4.5 Researchers outside Allele receive your records only with your research consent (Terms, section 4.5).

4.6 Others, with your consent, for example a service you connect to your farm.

4.7 When the law requires it, or to protect people. We disclose information when the law requires it, or when we reasonably believe it is needed to protect the safety, rights or property of our users, the public or us.

4.8 A successor. If our business or the Service passes to a successor, your information passes with it, and the successor must take on our Terms and this policy. We keep backups, including encrypted copies held under our business-continuity arrangements so the Service can continue if we are unable to run it.

5. How long we keep it

5.1 Account and farm information is kept while your account is open.

5.2 When you leave (Terms, section 7), we stop listing your farm and showing your contact details. We delete or de-identify your personal information once we no longer need it. Your farm's name and site code may remain on the records of animals you bred or owned, because other farms' pedigrees depend on them.

5.3 Billing and tax records are kept for as long as accounting and tax law requires.

5.4 Farmhand conversations, including any audio we receive, are kept to diagnose and fix problems and then deleted. Short excerpts kept as test cases have your name, your farm's name, your contact details and anything else identifying you removed first. Your Farmhand chat history is kept for you until you delete it, one chat or all of them; our staff can read it when helping you (4.2). Deleting it does not remove the records kept to diagnose problems. When you leave, it is deleted.

5.5 Support tickets and their context are kept with the ticket so that we can follow up and learn from them.

5.6 Server logs and backups are kept for a limited time and then overwritten.

6. Your choices and rights

6.1 You can:

  • see and correct your account and farm information in the Service;
  • turn breeder search on or off for your farm, and choose whether your email address is shown;
  • choose whether your animals are named in other farms' formal parentage reports (Terms, section 5.5);
  • choose whether your farm is named on a feature it asked for;
  • give or withdraw research consent (Terms, section 4.5);
  • ask for a copy of your farm's records (Terms, section 4.9); and
  • close your account (Terms, section 7).

6.2 You can also ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. We will delete or de-identify it except where we need to keep it: to provide the Service to other users, as section 5 describes, or where the law requires. Contact us at support@allele.dev. We may ask you to confirm your identity first.

6.3 Depending on where you live, privacy law may give you further rights. We honour them where they apply.

6.4 You cannot opt out of service messages, such as security notices and order updates, or of calls about a problem, while your account is open. We do not use your phone number for marketing.

7. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect personal information. Passwords are stored only in a form we cannot read. Access to personal information is limited to the people and providers who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed without permission. If a breach affects your personal information, we will tell you as the law requires.

8. Children

The Service is not directed to children. A person aged 13 to 17 may use it only with a parent or guardian who accepts our Terms (Terms, section 2.3). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have, we will delete it.

9. Where your information is processed

We are based in the United States, and we store and process personal information there. Some laboratories that test samples are in other countries. If you use the Service from outside the United States, your information is transferred to the United States and to those laboratories' countries.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. For a significant change, we will tell you by email or in the Service before it takes effect.
